All Things Hair Extensions

Welcome to our blog series, “All Things Lovely!”  In this first post in our series, we will provide all kinds of info on Hair Extensions – from the different options out there and how they work, to how to choose what’s best for you!

Looking for great hair extensions?  Look no further.  Salon Cherie owner, Cheri Gifford, is a Nationally renowned extension artist with Great lengths.  In fact, her business has increased so much over the last three years that she's being recognized by the Great Lengths USA company at behindthechair.com!

There are many reasons to get hair extensions.  They can add length to short hair, fullness to fine hair, or both.

First things first…are you looking for something temporary or permanent?

  • Clip in extensions don't last, but they can be good for a night out.
  • Woven and braided extensions offer a less expensive, semi permanent option and can be real or synthetic hair. The downside, though, is that they pull tightly at the scalp and can cause breakage, not to mention discomfort!  These are not good options for fragile hair!
  • Glued in extensions last but are hard to remove which causes damage.  The glue is not a natural product, so it is hard on your hair.
  • Bonded (fusion) extensions are applied with hot or cold fusion with a special implement designed to apply the pieces to your own hair.  Instead of being applied right at the root, they are placed up to 1/2" from it, allowing the hair to grow out properly without pulling or breaking.  Great Lengths extensions are superior because of the quality of the 100% human hair extensions used.  They are also created with a keratin bond, a protein found in your own hair, so the bond causes essentially no damage if properly cared for.  These extensions can be more expensive, but they last up to 6 months and if properly applied it's impossible to notice the bonds!

Always do your research on your extensionist.  Make sure they explain the process and aftercare.  And ask to see the products in their wrapping or packaging to be sure you are getting what you paid for.  We've seen clients come through the door who went to stylists offering a high end product like Great Lengths for less than the average cost, and it turned out they were lying.  Not only is that a terrible business practice, but the clients often see unnecessary damage done because that stylist didn't know what they were doing.

At Salon Cherie, Cheri always goes through the aftercare and step by step process of the application with her clients.  She also provides them with the tools needed to care for the extensions, and shows the hair in the package with the proper labels so that you know your extensions came from Great Lengths. No wonder her clients love her so much!  Some of them have had the process done more than a dozen times over several years!

Hair extensions can dramatically change your look and offer options you never thought possible with your own hair, so why not book a consultation at Salon Cherie today?
